Management Structure of the SALA Pension Fund
The SALA Pension Fund is managed by a Board members (Trustees), which is composed of 13 representatives ,10 municipality employees rep elect, and 3 employers . This governance structure ensures that the interests of all stakeholders are considered in the decision-making making
In addition to employer and employee representatives, the South African Police Services (SAPS) also has representation on the Board of Trustees. SAPS elects one member trustee and appoints one employer trustee to serve on the Board.
Trustee Responsibilities
The trustees of the SALA Pension Fund perform their responsibilities in accordance with relevant legislation, including:
1. The Pension Funds Act (No. 24 of 1956)
2. The Income Tax Act (No. 58 of 1962)
3. Other applicable legislation
These laws provide a framework for the trustees to manage the pension fund in a responsible and transparent manner.
Term of Office
Members of the Board (trustees) serve for a term of five years from the date of inauguration. This allows for continuity and stability in governance while also providing opportunities for new representatives to be elected or appointed.
Leadership Structure
The National Chairperson and the Deputy of the Board are elected by members of the Board in line with the Fund Rules.
The fund has established 3 Committees, HR and Governance Committee, Investment Committee, Admin, Finance, Audit, Risk & Communication Committee, which derives its mandate from the Board of Trustees. Each Committee’s has the chairperson and deputy chairperson
Principal Officer
The Principal Officer is appointed by the Board to oversee the day-to-day operations of the fund. This individual plays a critical role in ensuring that the fund is managed efficiently and effectively.
