Disability: Monthly Income Benefit

In the Initial Period, a Member shall be regarded as Disabled and entitled to this Benefit as from the expiry of the Waiting Period if prior to the attainment of the Normal Retirement Age and in the reasonable opinion of the Insurer, the Member’s injury or illness renders the Member totally incapable of engaging in his Own   Occupation for a continuous and uninterrupted period of not less than twenty four (24) months from the Date of Disability.

Twenty (20) months after the Date of Disablement, the Member must forward a completed Medical Progress Form to the Insurer to assess whether or not the Member is capable of engaging in any Other Occupation at the commencement of the Extended Period.

The monthly income shall be determined as follows, provided the Insurer receives evidence to its satisfaction of the Member being disabled,:

  • 75% of the first R31 500 of monthly earnings plus
  • 60% of the next R42 000 plus
  • 50% of the balance, with an overall limit of R60 00

Note:
A Claim will not be assessed or paid by the Insurer if the Employer does not submit the Disability claim and all the supporting claim documents and medical evidence to the Insurer within 6 months from the Date of Disability.

  • one (1) installment of R 10,000 payable at the end of the month of the Member’s death, and
  • five (5) further installments of R 4,000 each, payable at the end of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th month following the Member’s death.
